This innovation also challenges conventional recovery protocols, which often overlook the importance of exercise in enhancing bone strength. The “Goldilocks principle” (getting the amount of exercise just right) is key to avoiding further injury while promoting healing. As researchers move toward human applications, the prospect of personalised recovery plans becomes more realistic. For patients recovering from fractures or surgeries, this could mean shorter recovery times and stronger bones.

 

ADHD Diagnosis Through Brainwaves

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has long been misunderstood. Historically seen as a behavioural problem, ADHD is now recognised as a neurodevelopmental disorder rooted in differences in brain activity. While current diagnostic methods rely on behavioural observations, emerging research in computational neuroscience is offering a more precise alternative.

Additionally, reduced dopamine levels in key areas highlight the chemical imbalances contributing to attention and motivation challenges.

This breakthrough in understanding ADHD at a neurological level not only aids diagnosis but also helps reduce stigma. Children and adults with ADHD are often labelled as lazy or undisciplined, when in reality, their brains are wired differently. By shifting the narrative, these findings encourage tailored interventions that play to individual strengths.

As computational neuroscience evolves, we may soon see diagnostic tools that analyse brain activity to identify ADHD more accurately than traditional methods. These benefits extend beyond the kidneys. GLP-1 receptor agonists also reduce cardiovascular risk, including a 14% lower chance of heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death. The drugs even decreased all-cause mortality by 13% compared to placebo treatments.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 10% of the global population and is a leading cause of death. The discovery that GLP-1 agonists can protect kidney and heart health offers hope for millions, particularly those at risk due to obesity, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.

Lead researchers from the George Institute for Global Health emphasised the potential of GLP-1 agonists to redefine treatment guidelines for CKD. As access to these medications expands, their role in managing non-communicable diseases could significantly impact global health outcomes.
